EMPLOYMENT

New Hampshire Retirement System, Concord, NH

Public Information Officer, July 2010-present.

Responsible for developing, coordinating and overseeing member education, media relations and internal and external communications initiatives for a statewide, 80,000-member public employee retirement system.  Collaborate with executive staff to develop consistent messaging throughout the organization.  Monitor the legislative process and serve as point of contact for policymakers seeking information about the retirement system. 

Telegraph Publishing Co., Nashua, NH

Managing editor, Cabinet Press. Sept. 2008-Jan. 2009.

Ran the company’s chain of four weekly newspapers. Responsible for editorial department planning, content and production. Managed six-person staff, as well as more than a dozen part-timers and freelancers. Oversaw $25,000 freelance budget. Worked with publisher and VP/news on budgeting, marketing and strategy. Led effort to integrate Cabinet Press production with the daily Telegraph without damaging the weeklies’ strong brand identity. Served as the public face of the Cabinet Press.

Sunday and features editor, May 2000-Sept. 2008.

Supervised editors of daily Telegraph’s features sections and coordinated content and production of the award-winning Sunday edition. Worked with staff to plan, edit and design short- and long-term news and feature projects, many of which included multimedia elements. Managed a six-person features staff. Oversaw $50,000 freelance budget. Served on newspaper’s editorial board, meeting with local, state and national leaders. In addition to newsroom responsibilities, teamed with new media, marketing and circulation departments to help the identify growth areas and measure the success of new initiatives.

Managing editor, July 1998-May 2000.

Second-in-command of a 45-person newsroom. Responsibilities included coordinating investigative reporting and special projects, developing new products and overseeing production. Other responsibilities included mentoring individual section editors, serving as a member of the editorial board and dealing with community outreach.

Online editor, January 1997-July 1998.

Created an award-winning Web site from scratch. Responsible for all aspects of the site, from design and content to budgeting and traffic measurement. Worked with other departments to develop sales and marketing plans.

Also worked as editor, regional editor, copy editor, sports editor and lifestyle editor.
